Our next way led us along a winding road through the mountains to Charlotte. We took a short walk though downtown and had a root beer float in a diner.
Later in afternoon we spent some time in an air-conditioned mall and then watched the latest movie of the Fast and Furious franchise at the imax theater.
Near Charlotte there is a speedway oval. We had a guided tour even on the racetrack! It was stunning how steep those curves are – with an angle of 24°.
Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge was on our way, so we drove through it for a while, and had some ice cream at McLeod Farms afterwards. Stunningly they also serve cooked peanuts, but I didn’t taste them, ‚cause they kinda looked gross. And there were lots of old agricultural tools and tractors. Some really looked strange.
So we finally arrived at the Atlantic and had a short dip in the sea – for this holiday at least one last time.
