New Orleans

Arriving in New Orleans late in the evening, we got some information about where to go and have something to eat with „children“ under the age of 21. This information is really important in this town!

Sitting in the car all day long we decided to walk towards downtown, for it was only some blocks from our apartment anyway.

The next three days we were walking, riding the streetcar or the bus or just hanging around. We were still not used to those high temperatures and the humidity. Here is a brief overview of what we did:

  • Riding the streetcar – there is a station to get on and off every block. It isn’t the fastest way to get places, but it kinda works.
  • Walking along the Mississippi River – at least for a few miles
  • Having a walk through the City Park exploring the Singing Oak – we genuinely would’ve appreciated it, if the nice people standing beside us, would’ve just decided to shut their damn mouths.
  • Exploring the French Quarter and strolling along Bourbon Street – you can do this in the afternoon to see those lovely buildings with their balconies, in the evening it is like going through hell. If you don’t want to suffer from hearing defects you better use earplugs. If you have a dog with you, do so as well!
  • Visiting Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 – and after that walking along Magazine Street with its many shops.
  • Having coffee and beignets at Cafe Beignet – you will be white all over from powdered sugar afterwards.
  • Listening to a concert at Preservation Hall – it was short, but I enjoyed it.
  • Listening to live music and having „A Taste of New Orleans“ – Gumbo, Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole and Red Beans with Rice, at The Market Cafe.

A picture paints a thousand words.

Hey, I told you about the fields we saw when driving to New Orleans, remember? Here is what they are for:
